It’s not every day that the streets of Tulum turn into a moving museum. But on September 18, more than 20 gleaming classic cars rumbled through town as part of the fourth edition of the Rally Clásico Unique, organized by Scuderia FullGas. The event brought vintage steel and heartfelt purpose, reminding locals and tourists alike that sometimes, beauty and impact ride in the same vehicle.
Behind the polished fenders and revving engines lies a deeper story, one not just of horsepower, but of community. This wasn’t just a car show. It was a rolling act of generosity.
When horsepower meets heart: a different kind of rally
The rally wasn’t only about showcasing pristine vehicles from the golden age of driving. As part of their stop in Tulum, the organizers delivered 15 custom lenses to children with visual impairments supported by DIF Tulum.
“These kids now have a new way to see the world,” said a local volunteer close to the initiative. It wasn’t a flashy moment, but for the families watching their children try on glasses for the first time, it might as well have been fireworks.
And that’s the twist in this story: behind the roar of engines was a whisper of care.
Tulum opens its arms, and its streets
The convoy arrived under the welcoming eye of the Dirección General de Turismo, led by Haydee Hernández Pastrana, who emphasized how these events reflect the administration’s wider goals.
“It’s an honor to host this fourth edition,” said Hernández Pastrana. “Mayor Diego Castañón has opened the doors to initiatives that inspire smiles and admiration at every turn.”
The reception took place at the domo Dos Aguas, where locals and visitors flocked like kids to an ice cream truck. Except the treats were mechanical marvels: a 1960 Carman Ghia convertible, a Porsche 356, a Mercedes 220 from 1962, a 1960 Volvo, and even an MG 1953. It was less an exhibition and more a fleeting time capsule parked under Caribbean skies.
A government-civil society handshake in motion
Carlos Hernán Figueroa, the mind behind Unique, took the mic and steered the tone of the event toward its underlying message: unity.
“This is an example of how government and citizens can come together,” Figueroa stated. “This is our grain of sand, giving back to the communities that welcome us.”
That phrase, “grain of sand”, resonates in a region defined by its beaches but also its disparities. Events like this highlight how tourism in Mexico can be more than economic; it can be ethical. And Tulum, often painted in the colors of nightlife and high-end escapes, has another palette, one of solidarity.

But for now, what’s confirmed is that Tulum’s name is once again associated with something more than beaches and boutique hotels. It’s associated with kindness, horsepower, and shared roadmaps toward a better tomorrow.
